Ulluriaq Climbing Project |

With support from New Paths in Education and PM Climbing, a 12’ x 24’ climbing wall was constructed in the gym—the first of its kind in Nunavik! Under the expert guidance of physical education teacher, Pascal Poulin, students learned skills and safety related to rock climbing. More importantly however, students learned to: maintain good health habits, cooperate in teams, trust their peers, solve problems and drive themselves to succeed. All the students from Kindergarten to Secondary 5 have had a chance to climb in their gym classes. In addition, students with a special interest in climbing attend the after school Climbing Club and have even competed in friendly contests.
The climbing skills learned at the school may lead to employment as guides in the future Kuururjuaq National Park to be located just east of Kangiqsualujjauq in the Torngat Mountains. A very special thanks to Pascal who spearheaded the project and made it a huge success.

Teacher VS Students Football |

Football 2008 won’t only be remembered for the Giants upsetting the Patriots—its was also the year that the Teachers upset the Students. The Teachers are the Ulluriaq Indoor Football Champions!! After their one sided victory in 2007, the Students expected another easy win over the Teachers. Unfortunately for the Students, the Teachers showed up ready to play. The play of the game was undoubtedly the touch down catch by Kerrin “sticky fingers” Patterson. Way to go Teachers!

Christmas Concert |

Ulluriaq once again held its annual Christmas Concert in the gym just prior to the Christmas holiday break. It was a wonderful blend of singing and acting. The grand finale was a teacher and student presentation of “The Grinch Who Stole Christmas”. Merry Christmas everyone!!

A Visit from Dr. Flash! |

It was Mad Science time!! Dr. Flash visited Ulluriaq school for a week to wow the primary students with his science know how. The groups did exciting experiments related to electricity, molecules and matter. Dr Flash concluded his visit with a show in the gym for the whole community.

Skate Lending Program |

The Ulluriaq skate lending program is still running strong since started by Graham and Carol in 1999. For a small deposit, students borrow skates for the winter season. A big thanks goes out to Luc, Bill and Phil for running the skate program this year.
