Happy faces around the hole!!

Taking a peek - you never know what you'll see.
On March 27, we went for an ice fishing trip to nearby Barnoin River. It took place during the Grade 5 & 6 Exchange and we took our Montreal friends along with us. The trip takes about 45 minutes from the village and the trail crosses miles of tundra before dropping down into the river valley. We had a great sunny day and some of us caught fish.

Our mayor, Maggie Emudluk, spoons the ice out of the hole so Matthew can jig better.
Melanie and Nancy chose their hooks carefully.

Admiring some of the catch.

We took a break from fishing to have a fire and lunch. Angutinguaq kept an eye on the tea kettle.
Kendra, Qaajui, and Qaajui's parents enjoyed a char baked on the fire for lunch.
For most of the students, the best part of the day was the ski-doo ride to, from, and around the lakes.
It was also a great day for some snowshoeing in the trees.
We even found a porcupine. It added some real excitement!
