In
1996, a first postcard project was created by the IPL teacher and
class. A photo contest was held to decide which photos would be
used for the postcards. The people of Kangiqsualujjuaq were invited
to vote for their favorite pictures. In the spring of 1997, the
first 18 postcards were printed (you can see these cards on our
website* as cards #1 to #18). In this process the students did everything,
from creating and printing a poster for the contest to fund raising
for the printing, and from finding distributors to packaging and
sending the cards. In 1998/99 a second contest was organized and
an additional 9 cards were printed in the fall of 1999 ( see cards
#19 to #27 on our website*). Since the begining, the cards were
sold by all the Northern Stores of Nunavik and through the
schools of the Kativik School Board. In the fall of 1999, the new teacher and students of the IPL class were looking for new ways of selling their cards. They looked at all the possibilities that were available and choose 4. First, they would keep selling the cards through the Northern Stores and the School Board, but they would try selling them to staff in the different nursing stations and municipal offices of Nunavik. Second, they would sell sets of cards in a special envelope. Third, they would start making T-Shirts with postcards printed on and finaly, they would post their cards on collectible news groups on the Internet. Later that fall, Mr Michael DeJong from the Netherlands, a generous custommer ofered to create a website for our cards. Since then, the postcards sales have never been the same!! *see the link at the bottom of the page. |
