These photos show Maggie Sandy making a pair of leather mitts. Mitts made of leather and caribou are what we wear the most. They are very warm. Inside the leather we put fleece or sheepskin. On the cuff of the mitt we put fur from an otter, rabbit or other animal.

 

Maggie is planning where to put the pattern so that she will not waste any leather. Maggie is tracing the pattern. These mitts are black, but we also use brown leather. Maggie uses sharp scissors to cut the leather
Here is one mitt, ready for sewing. Almost finished... Maggie is now going to cut the fleece for inside the mitt.
